ALMOST FAMOUS

A Filmfreak 8/10

Directed by Cameron Crowe
Screenplay by Cameron Crowe
Cast includes : Kate Hudson, Patrick Fugit, Frances McDormand, Billy Crudup, Noah Taylor

Basic plot outline: William Miller is a 15 year old kid, hired by Rolling Stone magazine to tour with, and write about Stillwater, an up and coming rock band. This wonderfully witty coming of age film follows William as he falls face first to confront life, love, and lingo.

Review: Cameron Crowe has got to be the best screenwriter in the business! I ADORED Jerry Macguire, and this film followed the same sort of feel-good-and-laugh-loud style. Its clever, its witty, its heart warming.

The performances were absolutely brilliant. Kute Hudson (Goldie Hawn's daughter) is absolutely charming, and had already picked up a Golden Globe award for her performance. Patrick Fugit's big screen debut is entirely encapsulating, and I grow daily in awe of Frances McDormand (once again she proves the Coen Brother's taste is immaculate -- she is married to one of them!) The rest of the cast is equally strong, and this film is HIGHLY recommended. I only await to see how many Oscar Nom's it will pick up. I hold thumbs for Best and Supporting Actress.
